Bega

country heart

of the Sapphire Coast

Bega is the country heart of the Sapphire Coast, surrounded by rolling green hills, rich pastures  and the most relaxed cows in Australia. The town is dotted with galleries, cafes and quirky shops, as well as the famous Bega Cheese Factory.

The preservation of historical buildings, particularly in the main street and Church Street, make it easy to imagine what life was like when horse and cart ruled the roads.

Just around the corner, modern life returns with the South East Centre of Contemporary Art (SECCA), the Sapphire Coast's brand-new gallery and cultural hub. A place for art, culture and ideas, SECCA's program delivers an intellectual and artistic exchange of ideas, connecting the Sapphire Coast community with the best local and global contemporary visual culture.

Settle in on the banks of the Bega River, Kisses Lagoon or Glebe Park, there are picnic tables under the shade of she oaks, poplars and weeping willows. In Autumn the spectacular show of colour makes you want to kick up your heels in the leaves. Three kilometres north of the township you can take it all in at the Bega Lookout.

NORTH OF EDEN GIN

Take a drive north of Bega to North of Eden distillery, where you can purchase award-winning gin from their Cellar Door, kick back on a country picnic with a menu of gin cocktails, or even learn the art of gin-making at Gin School.

Biamanga National Park

A short drive out of Bega takes you to Mumbulla Creek Falls, the key feature of Biamanga National Park. It is a place rich in Aboriginal lore and life, and one that is readily accessible by people with mobility challenges as it has a boardwalk and paved picnic area.

BROGO dam

Just north of Bega is the stunning Brogo Dam which offers picnic facilities and a ramp from which to launch your canoe or row boat. You can hire canoes to explore the dam and gain access to remote pockets of bush, teeming with wildlife.
