NADGEE NATURE RESERVE

Our most remote, rugged COAST

Situated in the south eastern corner of NSW, Nadgee Nature Reserve is a remarkably unspoilt, uncrowded wilderness brimming with some of the most diverse wildlife and flora on the coast. Waterways include Little River systems and Nadgee Lake, while on the beaches it’s likely the only foot prints will be from the wallabies, and those you leave behind as you explore. Experienced hikers can challenge themselves on the epic four day Nadgee Wilderness Walk while easier walks are established around Wonboyn Lake and Merrica River. Nadgee Nature Reserve contains the only Coastal Wilderness Area in NSW.

Wildlife that is often recorded in the reserve include Eastern ground parrots, Eastern bristlebirds, little terns, potoroos and pygmy possums. A number of dingo families also live in the area. Dry open forest areas occur widely throughout the reserve with patches of rainforest occurring in the upper Nadgee/Battery Creek catchments and low shrubby heaths at Mount Nadgee and along the coastline.

Some areas of this park were affected by fire in 2019/2020. You’ll notice some changes to the landscape, as well as signs of recovery. Be sure to check with NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service for alerts and updates. You can also visit the Merimbula National Parks and Wildlife Office from Monday - Friday, or call them on 02 6495 5000.
