Finer diners on the Sapphire Coast

Must-visit restaurants ON THE SAPPHIRE COAST

There is a growing food and wine scene on the Sapphire Coast, one that boasts the most gorgeous views, the freshest seafood and produce, plus welcoming, country hospitality. Chefs take advantage of the abundant sea life, foraging unexpected flavours and treasures, while selecting the finest vegetables plucked fresh from the fertile Bega Valley. Wine lists explore many regions, near and far, and shaking up fine cocktails are the friendly faces of our truly hospitable people.

VALENTINA, MERIMBULA

On a good day Valentina’s dining room could take your breath away. Channelling a Mediterranean island hideaway you can get lost in her views over oysters beds and mangroves with an ever moving flotilla of floating vessels. A fantastic bar vibe and wine/cocktail list will have you exploring the by-the-glass offerings, and the food, served in small plates, focusses on local seafood, is stunningly presented and simply treated.

Excellent service means one is tempted to leave everything in the hands of your servers, perhaps slightly dangerous, but always completely memorable. Valentina has been described by SMH Good Food Guide as “a love letter to the long lunch…” but stay for the sunsets and add long-dinner to your Sapphire Coast experience.

DULCIE'S COTTAGE, MERIMBULA

Uptown in holiday central Merimbula, hidden behind a picket fence, is a little cottage with fabulous things on offer. A humming bar for beers and cocktails, a caravan serving up great burgers and oysters, an outdoor courtyard garden under a shady Jacaranda tree, and there’s often a DJ spinning tunes to help shimmy away the evening (which may have started as an afternoon) all helped along by authentic and professional service.

By great burgers we mean the Dulcie burger, cheese burger, chicken burger, shroom burger, build your own burger and a load of pickly, bacony, sides and fries. Dulcie's is a legendary Merimbula hang out, for good reason; the team delivers on all levels and has a few awards to show for it.

The menu is deceptively simple and uses as much local produce as the team can find. Pasta is all made at sister pantry il Passaggio Provodore, pizzas are classic, simple and delicious. There’s house focaccia, olives and il Passaggio’s famous polenta chips with a dark tomato ragu, seafood and duck pastas, house made gelato, a thoughtful wine list and a cask of negroni… we recommend trying it all!
