Blue Water Classic

Marlin catch_157aHead to the NSW Sapphire Coast for the annual Bermagui Blue Water Classic game fishing tournament over the long weekend in January. A NSW Game Fishing Sanctioned Tournament, competitors who sign up for the tournament will also be chasing other fish such as shark, kingfish and tuna, in the waters north or south of Bermagui.

With a number of tournament trophies and prizes on offer, there really is something for everyone. The prize list is extensive with various categories in the tag and release sections as well as the capture. Prize categories include marlin, other game fish such as yellow fin tuna and shark, junior and lady angler categories, most meritorious, as well as a small fry section and a lucky angler prize.

Bega Cup Race Carnival Weekend

Saturday 1st February, 2020 - Sunday 2nd February, 2020

Bega Cup Weekend is a full weekend of racing action at Sapphire Coast Turf Club with free buses to and from the track each day.

Quality horses and trainers from the local area and interstate will feature and don’t miss our biggest Fashions on the Field competition of the year with spectacular prizes. For the kid’s we will have free entertainment all weekend long.

Take advantage of the free buses and view the racing action from the large, banked lawn, members reserve or function centre. There’s also refreshments, TAB, local or interstate bookies.

 

 

Cobargo Show

Saturday 8th February, 2020 - Sunday 9th February, 2020

Cobargo Show is a traditional country show with exhibitors in Beef Cattle, Holstein and Jersey Cattle, Poultry, Hack, Heavy Horse, Show Jumping and a variety of exhibitors in our pavilion.  These include spectacular jams, cakes, quilts, art work, handcrafted objects, flowers, children’s craft work, photography, agricultural produce and a wide variety of fruit and vegetables.  In 2020 the show will also play host to the Stockhorse Training Challenge, a fascinating event held over the duration of the weekend.  Read all the details here.

The Cobargo Show is run over 2 days, opening daily at 8.30am and is held at the Cobargo Show Ground at the corner of Avernus Street and Cobargo-Bermagui Road, Cobargo.  There are camp facilities, public toilets and showers available.

Pambula Cup Race Day

Saturday 15th February, 2020

Sapphire Coast Turf Club is located on a picturesque 300 acre site on Sapphire Coast Drive at Kalaru, between Merimbula and Bega and Tathra. It is one of the newest and most modern country racecourses in NSW with great spectator facilities. Patrons can enjoy an unobstructed view of the racing action from most parts of the course including the Members Reserve and Function Centre and from the large, banked lawn areas.

The Pambula Cup Race Day is one of ten race meetings held during the season, with jockeys and trainers coming from all over south eastern NSW and East Gippsland to compete.

Facilities include a Function Centre which is perfect for weddings as well as race day functions. The course offers visitors and members a variety of services including TAB, local and interstate bookmakers, food and beverage services, free buses to and from the course from major local centres, picnic and family friendly areas.

Sculpture Bermagui

Held annually in March in Bermagui on the New South Wales far south coast, Sculpture Bermagui includes an outdoor exhibition of large sculptural pieces in the magnificent settings of Dickinson Point Headland and the foreshore of Dickinson Park, as well as an indoor exhibition of smaller sculptures at the Bermagui Community Centre.

Bemboka Show

Sunday 8th March, 2020

Bemboka Show
The Bemboka Show is held every year on the second Sunday in March.
Exhibiting in the historic main pavilion will be local fruit and vegetables, farm produce, country cooking, flower arrangements, plus a range of the arts and crafts including photography and quilting. In front of the main pavilion you’ll find the cheese pavilion and a range of other stalls promoting and selling local foods and crafts, plus plants and herbs. Get helpful information and tips from community groups and visiting experts on growing local produce and managing your property, no matter how small.

Cattle and poultry exhibits are also a feature of the Bemboka Show and in the main arena a broad range of show jumping and other equestrian events can be seen.

There is always plenty of entertainment, competitions such as wood chopping and dog jumping, old cars and historic farm machinery displays, plus a range of children’s games and activities.

EAT Merimbula

EAT Merimbula is a premium foodie providore event held on the foreshore of Fishpen Merimbula, overlooking pristine waters and working oyster leases.

The event features local chefs and restaurateurs gathering in a market style setting to create bespoke dishes featuring local produce.  In 2019, local offerings included tempters like steamed pork bao buns, slow cooked brisket, craft beer & local wine, oyster harvested only metres away, Eden Mussel pies, 12 hr fermented artisan donuts and more.

The event will enter it’s eighth year in 2020, with growing demand from visitors seeing more and more vendors participating each year.  Road closures will create a refreshed layout and more elbow-room for guests and the event is free to enter.

Four Winds Easter Festival

At the heart of the Easter Festival are two full, inspirational days in the Four Winds beautiful Sound Shell. Anyone who has been to the Festival before knows that the Sound Shell is an incredibly special experience because you can enjoy performances given by fine musicians from around the world, in one of the most beautiful performance spaces in Australia. Ephemeral. A festival at Panboola Wetlands.

Saturday 11th April, 2020

Art and creativity will be at the heart of Panboola wetlands Saturday 11th April 2020. The Pambula Wetlands and Heritage Project, in collaboration with the Lonely Arts Club Pambula, have organised Ephemeral – a one day festival – to celebrate the landscape of Panboola and the creativity it inspires.

The community is invited to come between 9am-2pm and wander the grounds of the wetlands and enjoy in-situ temporary sculptures, installations of art, craft demonstrations, acoustic music and stalls.

Book into the myriad of workshops on offer and try woodcarving, textile art and screenprinting.  Or settle in for a picnic with a pre-ordered grazing box from Sapphire Coast Eats.  Follow the link here for more information.

Merimbula Jazz Festival

Jazz lovers adore this seaside festival, celebrating music across 3 days with hundreds of musicians and performers and in 2020 it’s the big 4-0.  Yes, the Merimbula Jazz Festival is turning 40 !!

The festival was born in 1980, during an impromptu Sunday afternoon gig at Merimbula’s Fishpen, the next year it began in earnest and now includes all styles of jazz from traditional, ragtime, big bands, swing, mainstream, modern and funk.

Features of the weekend are the Jazz Street Parade and Concert, Saturday night Jazz Quest and the late night jam session which has the town rocking until well into the wee hours.

Tathra MTB Enduro

Her legacy was carried by her husband Brian Settle, and now by Hannan’s son Peter, who is himself a talented photographer. The purse is $50,000, with an additional $3000 for people’s Choice and $500 Mailroom Prize.

The Eden Caravan Muster

The Eden Caravan Muster is an annual event held in Eden, on the beautiful Sapphire Coast.  In 2020, it will be held from the 12th – 19th September.

The town has put together a huge series of events to welcome all “musterers” and there’s 8 days of food, wine, entertainment and adventure on offer.

5 Caravan Parks are coming together to showcase Eden and the Sapphire Coast all week long with plenty of planned entertainment and activities, including a country music showcase, an open air cinema, markets, local produce long table and a dedicated Caravan, Camping and Boating Expo!

Giiyong Festival

Giiyong Story

On Saturday 19 September 2020 the Giiyong Festival will take place at Jigamy, just north of Eden. This multi-art form festival celebrates traditional and contemporary Aboriginal culture through dance, art, music, film, theatre, food, sport, workshops and cultural tours and will be the second time an event of its type has been held in south east NSW.

Some of the most exciting Aboriginal performers in Australia will take the stage at Giiyong Festival so stay tuned as the festival develops. 

Giiyong means ‘come to welcome’ in Dhurga, the language local to the Eden and Bega area.

ReBoot in Bermagui this Spring

A weekend to run, refresh, relax and renew in beautiful Bermagui this spring.

For locals and visitors, ReBoot in Bermagui is two days of active participation in a variety of activities in Bermagui’s beautiful coastal environment.  Held over the October long weekend it offers something for everyone so come along and join in the fun!

2019’s program included a Tug-o-War Challenge, boot camp, yoga, Tai Chi, pilates, stand up paddle boarding (SUP), barefoot bowls, Ambrose golf competition, golf croquet, badminton, croquet … and more. For the kids, as well as the fun run, there’s Oops! The Clown, hula hoop fun competition, skate, scoot  & BMX competition.

Sapphire Coast Week of Golf

Now entering it’s 40th year, the annual Sapphire Coast Week of Golf is the high point of the golfing calendar for the Pambula Merimbula Golf Club and for the Far South Coast region at large.

Described by the influential Inside Golf magazine as ‘the finest tournament of its type in Australia’, the competition annually attracts around 700-800 entrants from every state and territory as well as numerous overseas visitors from such places as the United Kingdom, Canada, Singapore and New Zealand.

Highly regarded for its friendly atmosphere and professional organisation the tournament has encouraged many return visits from golfers, some having participated for more than 30 years.

The Week of Golf comprises nine days of women’s, men’s and mixed competitions. The week concludes with the Pambula Merimbula Men’s Open Championship on the final Saturday and Sunday.

Eden Whale Festival

It’s an oceanic migration like no other, and Eden has been an important part of it for centuries.

Celebrate the Humpback Highway with sightings from sea and shore, performances, exhibitions and music, and feast on local produce while whales play in Twofold Bay.

Held in and around the port, the festival embraces our maritime and bush heritage and celebrates with a huge party and fireworks on the Saturday night.

It’s the most unique whale watching experience the nation has to offer, and one that Australian Geographic ranked number one for whale watching destinations in Australia in 2014.

The whales can be seen in large numbers in the town’s stunning Twofold Bay, whether you are in a boat or on shore with a picnic of local produce.
