The Brainstorm

Step into the wild imagination of one of literature's greatest visionaries in The Brainstorm — a visually rich and theatrically inventive journey into the world of Victor Hugo. Blending storytelling, original music and animated projection, this acclaimed solo performance explores the turbulent life and creative genius behind the author of Les Misérables and The Hunchback of Notre-Dame.

Exiled and alone, in his studio on the island of Guernsey, Victor Hugo weaves together the essential threads of a ripping yarn which will become his next best-selling novel. He conjures up his cast of characters, spicing their relationships with obsession, love, betrayal, sacrifice and a good dash of skulduggery.

The Brainstorm follows the twists and turns of Hugo's romantic adventure, The Toilers of the Sea, illuminating the challenges and tragedies of his own tumultuous life. The rugged, elemental seascape of Hugo's political exile is a powerful and unpredictable player in this drama of life and death. A theatrical exploration into the imagination and alchemy of one the great intellectual giants of the nineteenth century.

The Brainstorm features a haunting original score together with animated AV projection inspired by Hugo's own impressionistic illustrations.
