Lucy Culliton - Close to Home

Close to Home

Lucy Culliton, one of Australia's leading contemporary painters, has lived at Bibbenluke, about an hour's drive south-west of Bega, since 2008. Her relocation to Eden-Monaro came with a sturdy old house on a block she could fill with flowers, space to nurture as many animals as she liked and a site for a big, bright studio to paint in.

Over the years she's lived here, she's made arresting views of the broad plains of the Monaro; studies of weathered tractors and sheds; perspectives on the glorious garden she's planted; and intimate renderings of her animal companions, kitchen utensils, tools, household hardware, woolen objects and curios.

SECCA's large-scale exhibition of Lucy's art, the first to be held so close to her home, includes many works that have never been shown before. It presents an unmissable opportunity, not only for her many long-term admirers, but for those who have yet to experience her joyful paintings and drawings.
