Barragga Yangga 2027
Presented by Djinama Yilaga and Four Winds, and directed by Cheryl Overton, this extraordinary work brings Yuin choir Dijnama Yilaga together with music collaborators Fred Leone, Heath Cullen, Stu Hunter and David Hewitt. The 2027 event includes the Four Winds Community Orchestra, Community Choirs and children from local primary and secondary schools joining the featured artists on stage.
Barragga Yangga immerses audiences in classical music and new songs in traditional Dhurga language. Written by the members of Djinama Yilaga, twelve original songs weave together ancient Yuin stories with deeply personal reflections on family, history and connection to Country. One song tells of ancestor Bundoola – the lightning and thunder spirit – and his 13 wives who gave birth to the 13 tribes of the Yuin nation.
Another, "Wandung Bawarr Njiinj", recounts how whales arrive when the wattle blooms, signalling a journey to higher country. "Yaway", meaning 'come and sit down', threads through the performance, inviting people together while acknowledging the need to keep gathering, retelling stories, and healing from the devastating disruptions of colonisation. Other songs are about growing up on Wallaga Lake Mission, and honour Uncle Jimmy Little.
The collection closes with "We Have Tomorrow and She Looks Good".

Actively welcomes people with access needs. Welcomes and assists people who have challenges with learning, communication, understanding and behaviour. (includes people with autism, intellectual disability, Down syndrome, acquired brain injury (ABI), dyslexia and dementia) Caters for people who are deaf or have hearing loss.
