Pet Friendly Holidays
Travelling with your pet? Here's a guide to our pet friendly accommodation and beaches.
We know pets are part of the family!
Pets are welcome at beaches in every town, a broad range of accommodation (see below) and lots of our cafes and restaurants. Veterinary care is available day and night, and there are several grooming salons.
Bermagui is a small vibrant town with pristine beaches and waterways, great produce and a relaxed culture. There are two off-leash beaches and a headland reserve right in the middle of town (see below for maps).
Some beaches, like Tathra‘s Mogareeka lagoon and parts of Boydtown Beach, Eden, are seasonally off-limits due to the nesting cycles of endangered shore birds. Keep an eye out for signs on the beaches in late summer.
Merimbula’s offerings are plentiful. Main Beach and Short Point headland are the places to go for off-leash fun (and a spot of whale watching in spring). It also has a grooming salon which is happy top hold onto you pet for an hour or so if you want to catch a movie or have lunch out.
Within a 5 minute drive of Merimbula, Pambula’s Lion’s Park Beach is 100% off leash all year round and has an excellent barbecue and picnic area.
Head in the other direction to Tura Beach and explore the beach there for a great view of the coastline.
Head 20km south to the fishing town of Eden and explore Twofold Bay with your hound. A boardwalk circles quite a few kilometres of shorefront, including Lake Curalo and historical Aslings Beach, where there is an off leash area. A few kilometres south of Eden, Keith’s Pinch is a little more remote and can be accessed via car or better still, a short walk from Cocora Beach (look for the signs at the southern end of the beach).
Away from the coast, there’s places on the Bega River that are off-leash and beautiful.

Here are some tips:
- Speak with your host before you book accommodation, that way you can talk about where your pet will sleep, what happens if you want to go out for dinner, and your host can learn a little about their furry guest. Also speak with your vet before you leave to ensure vaccinations are up to date and to protect your pet from threats such as ticks, which are active in New South Wales in the warmer months.
- Pack for your pet. Bring along bedding, their usual food, and some dry or canned food in case of emergencies. They’ll be happier with their own familiar water and food bowls and one or two of their favourite toys.
- When you do get on the road, take regular breaks so your pet can stretch and relieve themselves. Never leave your pet alone in the car.
- Ensure your pet can be controlled when off the lead and isn’t a ‘barker’.
