Program:

Felix Mendelssohn – String Quartet No. 2, Op. 13

Lyle Chan – String Quartet (World Premiere)

Lyle Chan’s new work will be the continuation of Acacia’s close relationship with the Australian composer.

Airat Ichmouratov – String Quartet No. 4, Op. 35 ‘Time & Fate”

Airat Ichmouratov: “String Quartet No. 4, Op. 35, ‘Time and Fate’ was composed during the spring of 2012, right after the tragic death of Eleonora Turovsky, who was like a second mother to me. Eden Whale Festival

Friday 1st November, 2019 - Sunday 3rd November, 2019

Whale tails in Merimbula on the Sapphire Coast

Whales play on the Sapphire Coast.

It’s an oceanic migration like no other, and Eden has been an important part of it for centuries.

Celebrate the Humpback Highway with sightings from sea and shore, performances, exhibitions and music, and feast on local produce while whales play in Twofold Bay.

Held in and around the port, the festival embraces our maritime and bush heritage and celebrates with a huge party and fireworks on the Saturday night.

It’s the most unique whale watching experience the nation has to offer, and one that Australian Geographic ranked number one for whale watching destinations in Australia in 2014.

The whales can be seen in large numbers in the town’s stunning Twofold Bay, whether you are in a boat or on shore with a picnic of local produce.

George Bass Marathon

Sunday 29th December, 2019 - Saturday 4th January, 2020

George BassThis is the longest, toughest surfboat race in the world!

Teams and single ski paddlers undergo a gruelling seven days on the open ocean, covering 190km’s of the coastline between Batemans Bay & Eden and contending with variable and wild surf conditions to launch and land their boats. They are elite athletes, skilled lifeguards and adventurers at heart.

The very first Bass was run in 1975 and was the brainchild of Bega Newspaper editor Curly Annabel who wanted to trace the journey of early explorer Surgeon Commander George Bass in 1797.

Surgeon Commander Bass with a crew of 6-navel oarsman rowed a longboat not unlike surf’s original double-ended clinker from Port Phillip down the NSW coast and around the southern end on Victoria mapping the coastline as they went. Annabel was at first thought mad and received no support, until then NSW State Secretary and Cronulla boat sweep, the legendary Nick Dixon, took up the cause and the rest, as they say, is history.
