This year marks the 38th year of the annual Merimbula Classic… a celebration of wind and waves, and a festival like no other. The event will run from November 22nd to 25th, 2018 – celebrating four days of fun on the water in the sports of Wave sailing, Kite surfing and Stand Up Paddling. There will also be SUP team races and a down wind individual event if conditions permit. As well as being great fun for competitors, it’s recognised locally as a popular community event where supporters and spectators can watch the colour and action from Merimbula’s magificent beach. Totally run by volunteer members of the Merimbula Sailboard Club, over the years the event has contributed to many community organisations and needy causes.
With the wind and waves on offer, there’s no excuse to be out of the water except to feed up on the club’s famous BBQ or wander into Grub’s beer tent for the daily happy hour where adults can relax and wind down and wash away the salt. Get fed, get entertained and and get out wave sailing, kite surfing or SUPping in the best winds and waves available over this four day extravaganza.
The format is designed to allow everyone to participate when the conditions suit their style and ability. Expect to see a number of foils participating in the kiting and in the SUP events. Prizes are awarded across all divisions in each discipline including OPEN MENS, OPEN WOMENS, JUNIORS (under 18), MASTERS (35+) & GRAND MASTERS (45+) .
A number of special prizes will also be awarded for individual outstanding performances in each category. For more information and to check out the entire program, visit the Merimbula Sailboard Club website here.
