Sapphire Coast Events – What’s on in 2019

For those of you who think we’re just about summer, we’d like you to know that the Sapphire Coast shines all year round. From festivals to food and everything in between, we’ve got a year round calendar of events that are worth coming back for. To help you plan your next getaway, here’s a list of just some of our flagship events for 2019.

Cobargo Folk Festival – March 1st to 3rd 2019

This three day event is widely described as the best little folk festival in the country. Over 200 performers and thousands of fans from all over Australia converge on the picturesque village of Cobargo to celebrate and share a love of music & performance.

Camping and amenities are provided for ticket holders and kids are well catered for with a range of musical activities, stories and craft.

Sculpture Bermagui – March 8th to 17th 2019

Sculpture Bermagui, is held over 10 days each March in the heart of unspoilt coastal wilderness, magnificent forests, fields, beaches and headlands.
Beautiful Dickinson Point headland and foreshore host the outdoor works and other sculpture centred activities, as well as music and fire spectacles. The indoor works are curated in the nearby Community Centre to enable their appreciation, out of the elements. It’s an experience not to be missed.

EAT Merimbula – March 10th 2019

EAT Merimbula 2019 marks the seventh year of this premium and unique foodie celebration which welcomes thousands of visitors each year.

The event features local chefs and restaurateurs gathering in a market style setting on Merimbua’s Fishpen to create bespoke dishes featuring the best of our local produce. In 2019 we look forward again to bringing you the freshest and most innovative local produce from land and sea.

Four Winds Easter Festival – Bermagui – April 18th to 21st 2019

Set in a unique environment at Barragga Bay, the Four Winds Easter Festival brings world-class musicians, performers & their audiences together in state-of-the-art venues amongst the majesty of nature.

Candelo Village Festival – April 26th to 28th 2019

Candelo Village Festival celebrates art, culture and music.

The Candelo Village Festival is a biennial celebration of the village culture and the Arts in Candelo.   The Community Hall will play its role as a vibrant cultural hub and be the primary venue for the festival audience this year.  Music, Theatre, Local Forums and Literary events will be held in the town hall over the entire weekend of 26-28 April and fine food will be readily available throughout the park and village.

Merimbula Jazz Festival – June 7th to 10th 2019

Jazz lovers adore this seaside festival, celebrating music across 3 days with hundreds of musicians and performers and in 2019 it will see in it’s 39th year!!

Features of the weekend are the Jazz Street Parade and Concert, Saturday night Jazz Quest and the late night jam session which has the town rocking until well into the wee hours.

The Tathra MTB Euro – Queens Birthday long weekend June 2019

The Tathra Enduro is a mountain biking odyssey that captures the best of the beaches, the forests and the mountains. It’s a rare opportunity to race along the coastline on a mix of forest roads, double track and secret stashes of single track deep in the heart of the coastal wilderness. Whale Watching Season – Sept to Nov 2019

The Sapphire Coast has been named Australia’s premier whale watching destination by Australian Geographic and Spring is the best time to see these majestic creatures as they nurse and rest on their annual migration to Antarctic.

Sapphire Coast Week of Golf – Oct 19th to 27th 2019

This event should be on every golfer’s calendar. Widely regarded as one of the best tournaments for amateurs in Australia, visitors come from every state and from overseas, just to participate. With over 800 annual competitors playing a variety of competitions, it’s a tremendously friendly, carnival atmosphere.

The Merimbula Classic – Nov 21st to 24th 2019

Surfing in Merimbula

The Merimbula Classic is an event like no other. Its a 4 day celebration of wave sailing, SUP surfing and kite surfing in the wind and waves of The Sapphire Coast. Simply, just a long weekend of paddling, hanging out and having a good time.

Watch current and past world and Australian champions mix it with the locals on the beach and at Ford Oval, which lies just behind the dunes.

Eden Whale Festival – Nov 1st to 3rd 2019

The Eden Whale Festival is held every year and is a celebration of all things whale. The festival combines whale watching experiences and activities to entertain the whole family, plus live shows, the festival parade, loads of outdoor entertainment, photography, film, music, seafood, local produce and so much more…

Getting here

We’re just 2.5 hours south of Canberra by car and 6 hours from Sydney & Melbourne. If you don’t want to drive, Regional Express can fly you here from Sydney or Melbourne in less than 90 minutes. From Bermagui in the North to Eden in the South, explore and drop in on the coastal towns of Tathra, Merimbula and Pambula or head a little inland and enjoy the beautiful rolling hills and rich farming history of Bega and Candelo.
