ANDREW WOOD

An Exhibition at Narek Galleries

This body of work is the combination of a ten year exploration of wood movement. It has been a journey into the history of the trees. By unravelling the grain Andrew Wood has been able to unlock and reveal the story. In previous works thin rods and sheets were sliced through the tree. In this series the cuts have been made across the tree to reveal the growth rings.
Every year of the trees life can be read, revealing not only its own story, but that of the environment it has grown in.
Wood has come to see his work as a collaboration between himself and the material. Originally he imposed his will upon the timber, bending it into the form that he envisaged. Over time he learnt to step back and allow the latent forces in the timber to create their own shapes. Now he is in awe of the beauty and magic locked inside the tree. Every new species has its own individual pattern language of shapes repeated with slight fractal variations.
Of all craft materials wood is unique in being alive, long after the tree has fallen it's timber will continue to respond to the environment it is placed in. Most of the trees used are older than he is, many pre-date white settlement by hundreds of years, some he planted thirty years ago. All of which helps to integrate the process of making with the continued life of the tree, creating beautiful works that inspire with a larger vision.

CANBERRA CONCERTO ORCHESTRA CHAMBER PLAYERS Tour 2011

Following their highly successful tour of Merimbula and Bermagui last year, the CCO Chamber Players are excited to be returning to the Far South Coast in December 2011 for two more performances.

On the program this year:

Vivaldi - Flute Concerto "The Goldfinch", with soloist Caitlin Ayres
Bach - Concerto for Two Violins, with soloists Charlotte Winslade and Jessie Regan
Dvorak - Serenade for Strings.

The Canberra Concerto Orchestra (CCO) is a unique orchestra consisting of professional and emerging pre-professional players; all coming together to bring beautiful music to life with joy, passion and sensitivity. The CCO Chamber Players is an ensemble consisting of selected string players and other soloists from the CCO under the leadership of Artistic Director, Charlotte Winslade.

Audiences will have two chances to see the CCO Chamber Players on the Sapphire Coast:

MERIMBULA - Saturday 10th December, 7:30pm at Twyford Hall.
BERMAGUI - Sunday 11th December, 2pm, at Bermagui Community Hall.

WINE MASTER CLASS WITH BRENT MACKAY

The Wine tasting will be conducted in the Lakeview bottle shop on December 16. There will be Three time slots of 45mins, each time slot will be held on the hour from 4pm (5pm, 6pm). Each participant will be required to pay a $10 fee upon entry that will be refundable with the purchase of six or more bottles of wine. The group sizes are to be no larger than 15 people per time slot to accommodate a personal approach from the wine rep.

A Master class approach will be taken whereby each participant will learn from the expertise of the wine Rep and the specialties of his product, which has been selected based on region and type. The following wines are the planned showcase:

A day at the races can be a great day out for people of all ages. Whether you are fanatical about racing

already, love horses or you enjoy a good day out with friends, we are confident you will enjoy your day at

the Sapphire Coast Turf Club.

Gates will open at 10.30am with the first local race at around 1pm.

The Sapphire Coast Turf Club runs FREE BUSES to the course on all race days from Eden, Pambula,

Merimbula and Tura Beach and from Bega and Tathra. The buses also return to those centres after the

last race. Bus times and pickup points will be posted on the website for all meetings.

Reserved seating is available in the Functions Centre at $5pp with its own bar, flat screen TVs and tote

monitors and even its own bookmaker to take your bets. Great snack food and bar services will be

operating and EFTPOS is available on site.
