Winners: Sapphire Snappers Summer Photography Competition

A sunny afternoon at Bournda National Park, a duck diving surfer and a candid moment on the beach were the captured moments that won prizes in the inaugural Sapphire Snappers Summer Photography Competition.

Tim Britten’s ‘Bush and Beach, Wallagoot’.
Lauren loved it because “the composition framing and late afternoon summer light is just perfect”.
Sarah said “this photo has it all, colour, depth and interest”.

Louise Kelly’s ‘Wash Away, Ben Boyd National Park Eden’.
Lauren said “this is not an easy shot to achieve..but it has been executed perfectly”.
Sarah loved it because it captured “an intimate moment between man and sea, not an easy shot to capture”.

Snapper Prize was won by Rebecca Lamont for ‘Beach Runaway’’
“We love this story of summer shenanigans at the beach. The composition is simple and the use of black and white is different but works perfectly.”

Over 100 entries aimed to capture the essence of a Sapphire Coast summer. First place went to Tim Britten’s shot of Wallagoot at Bournda National Park, second place to Louise Kelly Seascapes underwater image of her partner diving under a wave with his surfboard.

The committee members Davey Rogers, Teena Vincent, Sonia Grothe and Jason Guthrie also awarded a prize to Rebecca Lamont for a classic black and white image of people at play on one of our beaches. “We love this story of summer shenanigans at the beach. The composition is simple and the use of black and white is different but works perfectly,” Davey said.

Davey thanked judges Lauren Bath, Australia’s first professional Instagrammer, & Sarah Chenhall, Sapphire Coast Tourism’s digital and social coordinator.

“We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect duo. Lauren is a professional photographer and social media guru who travels the globe creating beautiful travel content for her 460,000 plus followers on Instagram. Sarah is not only a photography enthusiast herself, but also brings an expertise of intimately knowing the local area.”

The competition was announced in December 2017 and promoted on Facebook, Instagram and sapphirecoast.com.au.

“We were thrilled with the quality and quantity of photos entered in the competition,” Davey said.

“It was a fantastic initiative to motivate both amateur and professional photographers in the area, plus to showcase this amazing coastline over the summer season. We look forward to running a similar competition in Winter with a whole different look and feel to the entries’.
