Easter Monday Arts Adventure
Take a day trip and indulge in fine arts. There are more than 11 exhibitions on between Bega and Bermagui!
The biggest by far is the 2016 Archibald Prize at Bega Valley Regional Gallery, which has extended trading hours to 10am and 4pm. From there head to Tathra, a 30 minute drive though dairying and farming country. Bird lovers can stop at On The Perch, for a great coffee and a wander through the walk-in aviaries where there’s over 80 species of birds. The crew here are big on conservation and rehabilitation and have some wonderful stories to tell about endangered and threatened species.
From Tathra, head into the spotted gums and burrawangs of Mimosa Rocks National Park for 13 kilometres to Dr George Mountain Road and you’ll see a sign prompting you to stop in at Bernd Weise’s ceramics studio. A couple of kilometres further and his mate Barry Jackson’s has an open studio on Haighs Road.
Five kilometres from Barry’s is Ivy Hill Gallery, an excellent gallery housed in a former farm house set in a lush country garden. Here you can explore the sculpture and painting by Janine Scrivens, Heather Burness and Deborah Redwood.
From Ivy Hill, the drive to Bermagui is only 30 kilometres through more beautiful eucalyptus forests and beautiful Cuttagee Beach with its picturesque one lane bridge.
